Kristin Favreau, 50, of Spring Lake, is a devoted wife, mother, business owner, and active member of her community. She and her husband, Dean—a Union 174 pipefitter with Andy Egan—have been married for 18 years. Together they are raising two busy and talented boys: Dean III (15), a varsity tennis player involved in trombone and robotics, and Mikey (13), who loves basketball and soccer.

Kristin is the proud owner of Peace Frogs, a business she has been part of since 1997 and purchased after graduating from Grand Valley State University with a degree in Earth Science—where she and Dean first met. During the off-season, she substitutes at Grand Haven Area Public Schools. She treasures time with her family, especially boating, being outdoors, and traveling to Petoskey and Mackinac Island. She’s an avid reader and has been enjoying the Jack Reacher series, and she deeply values time spent with her sisters and close-knit “pier family.”

Kristin was recently diagnosed with Stage 1, hormone-positive, HER2-negative breast cancer, with three tumors in her right breast. At this time, chemotherapy and radiation may not be necessary pending final pathology results following lymph node removal. She will undergo a double mastectomy with partial reconstruction, followed by final reconstruction this fall, and will begin a five-year treatment plan.

While the recovery will be lengthy—especially as her family is in the middle of expanding their store—Kristin feels grateful the cancer was caught early and is not genetic. Breast cancer has touched her family before; her mother passed away from the disease in 2006, and her grandmother also faced it. With the support of her family and community, Kristin is approaching this journey with strength, gratitude, and determination.
